From New York Times bestseller Katy Regnery comes a new twist on a beloved fairytale.

In this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, a fisherman’s daughter from an Outer Banks island untouched by time, meets the son of the North Carolina governor at a fancy party she helps to cater.

Laire, who wants more from life than her little island can offer, is swept away by wealthy, sophisticated Erik, who is, in turn, entranced by her naiveté and charm. The two spend a whirlwind summer together that ends on the knife-point of heartbreak and forces them to go their separate ways.

Years later, when fate finds them together once again, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.

My Review

I’ve always love fairytale retelling. This one is a modern Little Mermaid, where Laire is Ariel and Erik is Erik. Laire is a daughter of a fisherman in a small island of Corey whose simple life revolves around rules and tradition. But she has dreams to travel outside of their island and be a fashion designer in the future.
One day during summer, she met the governor’s son, Erik in a party she helped to cater. Her simple beauty and innocence captivated Erik immediately. Erik is swoonworthy guy, handsome, charming and sweet. As the prince of the story, he is expected to finish law school and marry someone who is approved by his family, in short in good social standing.
It was sort of love at first sight for Erik when Laire caught his eye. So they began their secret love affair until social pressure, some unfortunate circumstances made them broke up and parted ways.
Several years later, their paths crossed again. You have to read what happens next. And I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. Just like any other fairytale, our herpine is perceived as innocent and weak. But love will prevail and make her strong. Regnery beautifully wrote another bestseller that will captivate the hearts of every reader. Every one will be sucked in to the life in Corey Island and the love that will lives happily ever after.
